Happy Aloha Friday and the title says it all: You Are What You Eatso today’s Facial Friday blog is all about eating healthy to have beautiful radiant complexion and a healthy glow to your skin.
It is very important to eat right especially to consume fruits and vegetables that contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect the skin from cell damage that could be caused by unhealthy food choices, smoking, environmental causes, and aging. Antioxidants can help to slow damage to the skin cells caused by free radicals from the environment. Fruits, veggies and healthy fats from oily fish, nuts, along with a balanced diet of Beta Carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc and Selenium are all ways to get in healthy foods that promote healthy skin.
Beta Carotene or Vitamin A is an antioxidant and found in foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, broccoli, Kale, cantaloupe, apricots, romaine lettuce and it can also be found in some herbs and spices such as paprika, parsley, cilantro and coriander.
A good source of Vitamin C are blueberries, oranges, broccoli, guava, kiwi, papaya, strawberries, sweet potatoes and these help to strengthen the capillaries that supply the skin and improve elasticity.
Vitamin E can be found in foods such as almonds, avacados, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, pinenuts to name a few as it protects the skin from cell damage and supports healthy skin as a moisturizer.
Selenium helps to boost your immune system that the body needs which are found in brazil nuts, fish, shell fish, tomatoes and broccoli to name a few.
Eat enough Omega -3 fatty acids such as oily fish, chia seeds and walnuts that encourage the body to produce anti-inflammatory properties to help with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Hydrate and drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day however, if you are more active and exercise then your body will need more fluids as it is being eliminated through perspiration and or being absorbed in the tissues. If you are dehydrated then your skin can become dry can cause you to look older. Please remember that watermelon or cucumber also contribute to fluid intake.

Most of us who have been out of work due to the shut down mandate has been isolated and quarantined since March 2020. We all know that being cooped up in the home can be very stressful therefore, it is important to take care and pamper yourself to feel happy, rejuvenated, balanced and refreshed to be able to keep going. With all of our hairstylist, massage Therapist and other pampering professionals closed, you can still be creative and allow yourself to get pampered.
One way to pamper yourself is by:
Taking A Hot Bubble Bath. Ahhhh…..The Warmth of the water will already make you feel relaxed, soothed and comfortable to take any stress off. Make sure that you are completely alone, lock the door if you have to so that you are not disturbed by your kids, play some soft relaxing music, light a few candles scented with lavender then just soak, relax and enjoy!
2. Massage. Find a family member to massage you while you just relax as your whole body will feel so good and you will be able to get a good nights sleep….exactly what your body needs. You can also place cucumber slices over your eyes to feel more refreshed, relaxed and it will help to decrease any inflammation and puffiness around your eyes.
3. Keep Yourself Looking Good. It is so easy to let ourselves go and be lazy during quarantine time but this is a time to more so keep up with coloring your hair, getting out of bed and put on some makeup, brush and style your hair, get out of your pj’s and put on something presentable, get moving, get exercising and stay motivated.
4. Mani and Pedi. Take some time to give yourself a Mani and Pedi. turn on some relaxing music, find a space that is well ventilated with cool breezes or A/C, clip your nails to your desired length, File the rough edges and create a nice shape, choose your color of nail polish, slowly apply, let dry and enjoy!

One of the most important quality and character that anyone can exemplify is being able to live with INTEGRITY.
Integrity is defined as having the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles and moral uprightness. When your heart can also get convicted to doing what is right in those moments that you might be making a bad or dishonest decision. I’m sure that we can all agree that it isn’t easy for most of us to live with Integrity as we are all humans in the flesh who sin. Take a look at these examples:
Have your ever gone to McDonalds and they gave you a whole meal deal that you didn’t pay for….did you take it back or just kept it and enjoyed the meal?
Have you ever found someones wallet with their ID in tact with a lot of money in it….did you return it? Did you keep it, spend the money and feel happy about it?
Have you ever lied to someone knowingly that what you just told them was a lie? Does your heart get convicted to apologize and acknowledge that you were wrong? Do you just keep going on and living life about lies?
Have you ever witnessed someone being bullied or mistreated? Did you just turn your cheek and looked the other way? Did you step in to help? now ask yourself….what did I do or what would I do? Which way do I live? Do I do what is right? Do I show that I have Integrity? Is this something that is okay with me if I am not honest? Only you know the answers and where you stand on the moral compass of doing what is right and where your heart is.
If you choose to live without Integrity it comes with steep consequences of building your character of lies, being deceitful, people will not be able to trust you, your quality of life might be limited as far as being able to get a job based on your history, People will doubt if you are being honest and always know you only as a liar, friends start to disappear from your circle, and your heart is not clean and good.
However, you can choose right now if you want to Live with Integrity as it will make you feel good about yourself, people can trust your word, you will leave a legacy so that when your name is spoken others will know you as having a good heart, who does the right thing, who cares more about others than themselves, but mainly to live righteous in the eyes of God as he will reward you so it is your call and your decision to step it up and live with Integrity!

Strengthening core muscles has its great benefits to avoid injury and back pain.
Millions of people around the world suffer from low back pain on a daily basis that can be very debilitating, fatiguing and irritating and over time it can actually limit us from doing simple activities such as tying our shoelaces, carrying groceries, sitting down, or stopping us from going into work if we don’t take care of the situation.
Low back pain can be brought on by many different factors such as an injury from picking something up wrong to an auto or work related accident, to arthritis but the most common reason why we experience back pain is because of our poor posture whether we are in a sitting or standing position. Yes….the words of our parents are back to haunt us….we’ve all heard our parents tell us at a young age to sit up straight and to stop slouching right?! Well, that is so true to a certain degree but there is more to it than just sitting up straight to avoid low back pain.
First, lets address the question…What are core muscles? Core muscles are muscles that give us strength and stability in our abdominal and back muscles to help us avoid injury from the stress of positions that we put ourselves in. Our core muscles are most commonly associated with the abdominal muscles however, it also integrates with the pelvic floor muscles and back muscles too therefore, to get all of these muscles stronger will improve your strength and stability thereby minimizing low back pain and eliminating the risk for low back injury. Without strong core muscles, everything starts to collapse and bad posture kicks in with a slouched upper back putting added pressure through the spine down to the lower back as it is being over stretched over a long period of time that the muscles of the back become very weak and pain occurs.
Strengthening exercises are the most important treatment to focus on to stabilize core muscles…think of a loose wheel on a car that is weak and isn’t performing optimally as the wheel is shaking and wobbly but if you were to tighten up the nuts and bolts of the wheel then the tire becomes stable and no longer wobbles and can run smooth and efficiently. This analogy is no different a weak core muscle that needs to strengthen, tighten up and stabilize so that it will have the endurance to tolerate stressful positions and avoid low back pain.
Starting on a strengthening exercise program doing simple exercises such as pelvic tilt, dead bug, bridging, prone alternating arm and leg extension with progressions will make a difference with decreased pain and increased strength.
I am so thankful and grateful everyday for another day of life, breath and for the opportunity to be productive, creative, and live my best life to be happy and Staying Forever Young!
What does “Staying Forever Young” mean to you? For me, it means age is just a number and at 55 years young, I honestly feel like I am in my 20’s as far as my energy level that never stops doing things, learning new things, growing, teaching and living! I also do not take any medication what so ever, I don’t struggle with pain any where on my body, I can actually still do the things that I used to do as a young girl such as doing a cartwheel, climb a tree, dance for hours, play softball and I even have more energy than my teenage daughter…can you believe that?
I am sharing these things definitely not to brag at all but to show you how anyone can live this same way Staying Forever Young by living some of my philosophy, principles and prescriptions for life. I am a firm believer that what I am going to share with all of you will help you to improve your life by increasing your energy level, feeling motivated to being more productive and getting things done, feeling happier, healthier, waking up feeling excited, loving life and feeling young!
The most important philosophy that I live by daily is…
Laughter Is The BestMedicine! I see everything as fun, funny, fantastic and fabulous and I laugh my heart out everyday at something. It is a great way to relieve stress, relax and release endorphins that fill your body with happy cells! A smile that can’t be wiped off your face only speaks happiness! It really does the body good and keeps you young and energized…try it everyday!
Think Positively! This is my second principle for life to always think positively and to know that there is a solution to everything! I really live by this as I have also raised and taught my kids knowing this too. What does this mean you ask? Well, this means to bring good positive energy within by being an encourager, an influencer, creating solutions, seeing things as half full versus half empty, being optimistic instead of pessimistic, don’t grumble about things if you are not willing to create a change or just address the person directly to be straight up, real and honest and of course avoid any negativity. Remember we all have a choice to choose who we want to bring into our environment so surround yourself with positive people who empower you and raise you up!
Allow Yourself To Act Silly! I love this one…at my age most people think that they are not allowed to or they might think that it’s not appropriate acting a little kidish but it’s acting kidish in a fun way. For example, I might make goofy and funny faces with my daughter that leads us to a non-stop laughing session, or may be we start doing a video dance that is off the wall or a TikTok dance that is fun and silly….whatever it is, everything is a go just being silly!
Eat Healthy! I have been eating healthy for over 21 years not eating meat, pork or chicken however, I do eat fish and anything from the ocean therefore, I am called a Pescatarian and I also eat a lot of salads, tofu and vegetables everyday that boosts my energy level up and hydrating myself by drinking water throughout the day also helps to increase my energy and revs my metabolism as I believe that all of this is a big part of Staying Forever Young….how we choose to feed our bodies either with healthy foods or choosing fatty meats that are difficult to digest or a lot of fried fatty foods that can increase the risk for heart disease of clogged arteries, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or even cancer to name a few. So, if you are not doing so yet, start now by adding a little veggies to your diet, maybe eat less meat and eat more fish…you can do it!
Exercise! Because I am a Massage Therapist, I get my daily exercise by massaging my clients through breathing properly and contracting overall muscles throughout the sessions but I also do Tae Bo and simple stationary exercises of leg lifts, squats, lunges while integrating arm lifts. This routine is so simple and it increases good oxygen, circulation, strength and energy to Staying Forever Young so, get off of your couch, get moving by taking a walk, search google for exercises and follow along, ride a bike but whatever you choose be consistent and just get started!!

During these times of uncertainty, with this worldwide spread of Covid 19 where people are scared, feeling traumatized, lost, depressed, anxious and do not know how to deal with this devastating, life changing Coronavirus pandemic then it is important for you to continue reading and it would be wise for you to choose how to learn and live with Faith. You might be asking….What is Faith? How do I choose to live with this? Good answers and let me explain from my own perspective on what exactly is Faith and how you can get excited once you understand how to apply this that will make you feel more at peace in your heart and mind with less anxiety and be able to Live Your Best Life with happiness no matter what difficult challenges you are faced with.
First of all, the definition of Faith is…Having the belief, trust or finding confidence in something that you cannot see or is not tangible but it is real. A connecting power into the spiritual realm and being linked to God. Faith is also a belief that leads to action which means that the things that we do(action) says more about what we believe than what we say.
A good example to illustrate Faith is if we take a chair and i told you that I believe that this chair will be able to hold your weight.. you look at the chair and you also believe that this chair should hold your weight but you do not put all of your Faith and Trust into that chair until you actually sit in it. The same thing applies when we do not put our faith and trust in God, as we will feel uncertain, scared, fear, question etc and will not reap the rewards of feeling peace. It is important that we actually trust that God is real and must believe that he exists by his words and that he rewards those who seek him.
Faith is an active trust in God and what we believe he says is true without question will result in action by seeking him, reading his words, believing that he has died on the cross for our sins, accepting Jesus into our life as our life manager and savior by just believing. Once you have made that decision to accept him into your heart, say this life changing prayer…………………..Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead and that you are real and alive. I want you to come into my life, my heart and I want to trust and follow you….I have Faith in you! Amen!
I am telling you that this is all you have to do to live with Faith and Trust and once you have reached out to the Lord, all you have to do is give all of your burdens, your fears, your, anxieties and anything that is negatively holding you down to the Lord and let it go which means don’t worry about it and have FAITH in Jesus that he will take care of your needs and you will be ok and able to have a happy heart filled with his love. This is living with Faith and that’s all you have to do to Live Your Best Life full and happy!

Have you ever noticed that times have certainly changed because of advanced technology, environmental changes, economic changes, value system changes, moral changes, generational changes and other factors that have contributed to where we are today in our thought process, in our beliefs and in our attitudes that are just different now then they were back in the “good old days”? More importantly, what I see that have really changed is the simple “please” and “thank you” or having care and common courtesy for another person especially while driving…I am talking about what I see in my home state of beautiful Hawaii. I am sure that where ever you come from there has also been many changes of what I am talking about.
I was born in 1965 and raised in the 70’s-80’s and grew up in beautiful Kaneohe on the Island of Oahu and ever since I could remember, people were always so friendly, everybody would smile at one another while passing on the streets, in the stores, talking story as every body knew each other, waving “hi” to others even if we didn’t know them, and while driving it was a way of life to have Aloha on the streets and let people cut or merge in by slowing down and giving them the hand signal to let them in, it was also automatic to give a wave to say “thank you” when someone let you merge and it was always seen so often back then having the common courtesy to think of the other person. Life was so simple then and boy, do I wish we could bring that life style, that mentality and that Aloha all back and live with thinking about the other person and having the heart to have good manners, being thoughtful and caring.
What I see today is so unfortunate because I have witnessed first hand that if I am walking past a person, it is automatic for me to smile and say “hi” but the other person might not acknowledge me or look at me until I say “hello”. This is not how my Hawaii used to be and here is the most biggest and significant change that I see today is that people do not have and show much Aloha and care to others while driving. I notice that people start to speed up when they know that another person wants to merge or cut lanes or if someone lets another person merge in then there is no “thank you” given or no flashing of the shaka sign or a friendly wave…why is that? why does good manners and giving Aloha have to fade? Well, I know that people who come from the mainland as a visitor or who now live here might not have grown up that way so of course they don’t see anything wrong that they don’t have good roadside manners and it’s not their fault but just different mentality as a friend of mine from the mainland shared with me that it’s just their way of thinking and that letting people cut in or merge is something you just don’t do on the freeways or highways otherwise you will get honked at. So, that is a big part of our change here in Hawaii of not seeing much Aloha and manners on the road however on the flip side of it, I have also witnessed that some of our very own locals who do not show Aloha for others and that is shame!….really just a shame!
So, everyone…lets bring back the old Hawaii and spread the Aloha Spirit. If you are a visitor to the Islands, have just moved here or you are a local then please be polite and have manners on the road….let people merge and cut in, or if someone lets you go then please say “thank you” with a simple wave. Be friendly with a smile or acknowledge someone with a “good morning”, “hello” or “have a good day” if you are out walking or in a store as that will brighten someone’s day, and make people feel good. Try it and you’ll like it and having good manners and having care for others is so infectious that it can continue to snowball by people touching people and before we know it, it’s back to the good old days of overflowing with love and Aloha for others!

Remember that special day when you just got married and everything was perfect, new, romantic and your love for one anther was so ahhmazing? Then the days goes by and new qualities emerge that you have never seen before that might be a little irritating to you like snoring …..yikes…. he or she is so loud or he or she doesn’t put the toilet paper roll on correctly, or maybe you both have a different style of cleaning but hey, no big deal right?….you’ll get through it. Well, the day comes that you both find out the good news that you are expecting to have a baby boy soon….Congratulations! The emotions of being happy, nervous, excited and overwhelmed consumes you as you can’t believe that you will be a mommy…or a daddy that comes with a big responsibility to care for, instill values, morals, educate to get him to the next level in life to be successful, to nurture, to love, to teach him right from wrong and to be the best role model for him!
The years passes and you notice that things are kind of changing…..it becomes such a routine in your household , your husband is not showing you much affection and all he wants to do is be out with the boys, your wife is not meeting your sexual needs and tends to your child’s needs first, you both are fighting on a daily basis and not able to agree on the same style of parenting philosophy and your daily communication is by yelling, screaming, ranting, raging, and throwing things all right in front of your precious little one from the age of two. Your child hears explosive language of hate and physical altercations constantly until the age of 9 when you both decide that it is time to get a Divorce. Unfortunately, nothing is spoken to your child about getting a divorce and one day you….mom, takes your child without his father to a new home, a new school, a new family unit without his father. Your child is heart broken, in tears, blames himself for the breakup and divorce, lives with the guilt that if he was only a better child this wouldn’t have happened and this is such a heavy burden to carry through the years. Your son becomes mad and angry about the situation and how things were wrongfully and unfairly handled that now as he is getting older he is searching towards other things to fill his crushed heart and eliminate the hurt by doing drugs, experiencing with drinking, being promiscuous and going down the wrong path because he doesn’t have anyone to talk to, he feels lonely and empty, he doesn’t have his dad with him and he is just full of confusion and hurt.
Does this sound familiar? Have you been guilty of yelling, cussing and screaming in front of your child during arguments but never stopped to think how your child was feeling? Well, it’s time to make better mature choices to help your child through the most difficult time of their life! A bad decision we make as parents could be a lifetime of scarring for your child so we really need to have awareness to do what is right and with the mindset of always with the best interest for your child. Now, here are some solutions that you can do and follow to have a positive environment and to make any transitions a better one.
Rule # 1 Never argue in front of your child and show them that you are bad mouthing the other parent.
Rule # 2 Never bring your child into adult situations such as telling them about your money problems, or about your arguments with your spouse as they cannot control those things.
Rule # 3 Always have family discussions and keep the lines of communication open for your child to express their feelings.
Rule # 4 When you decide that you both agree to get a divorce, you MUST sit everybody down together as a family (Dad, Mom, and kids). You are all still family so you need to address it all together.
Rule # 5 The first 45 seconds is the most critical time of what is spoken because it leaves the most impression so you want to tell them that …Mom and dad have decided that we can no longer live together and we want to assure you that nothing is your fault, you have not done anything wrong to cause us to be apart and it was our decision but we both agree that we love you so very much and we will always be here for you and support you in anyway we can. We want to be here for you to answer any questions or if you want to express yourself on how you are feeling but we know sometimes it can be hard to come to us to share so please choose another family member ( a second parent) that you feel comfortable with. This gives them another outlet.
Rule # 6 Check in with your child on how they are doing and just to reassure them that they are loved. Now when you are living apart from your ex, never bad mouth the other parent and encourage them to have a healthy relationship with the other parent as well as this will make them happy and have a more solid foundation to move forward…
Please remember that it makes all the difference on how you approach the situation so always look at it through the eyes of your child and help them to be happy, stable, safe and loved even though the situation can be a stressful time. It will be a healing process but believe me…I am speaking from experience when I say that we all heal if we allow it.

When I think of Inner Beauty, I immediately think about someone’s heart…..caring, loving, giving, supportive, encouraging, kind, gentle, happy, joyful, self control and well basically mirroring the Fruits of The Spirit.

In today’s society, outer beauty is so overly highlighted by someone’s physical facial features or a sexy body with all the right curves that it is acceptable to many in our society of what the definition of being beautiful is as well as it demonstrates a false sense of beliefs.
